Boeing launches first-ever crewed Starliner mission to International Space Station
Spacecraft set for May 20, 2023, launch
Liftoff scheduled for 6:18 p.m. ET
NASA and Boeing announced today (March 1, 2023) that the first crewed mission of the Boeing Starliner spacecraft is now scheduled to launch on May 20, 2023, at 6:18 p.m. ET from Space Launch Complex 41 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida.
The mission, known as Starliner-1, will carry a crew of three NASA astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS). The astronauts will spend approximately six months on the ISS, conducting research and maintenance tasks.
Starliner-1 is a critical test flight for Boeing, which is hoping to prove that its spacecraft is ready to carry astronauts to and from the ISS on a regular basis.
Boeing has been developing the Starliner spacecraft for more than a decade. The spacecraft is designed to carry up to seven astronauts and can remain docked to the ISS for up to six months.
The Starliner-1 mission is a major milestone for Boeing and NASA. If successful, it will pave the way for regular crewed Starliner missions to the ISS.
