Who Will Replace Mark Harmon on NCIS? Austin Stowell Is the Top Contender
The Future of NCIS
After this season of NCIS, Mark Harmon, who played Leroy Jethro Gibbs, is leaving the show. Many rumors have circulated about who could replace him. CBS has confirmed that this season is Harmon's last.
Current Front Runner
At the moment, the top candidate is Austin Stowell. ET Online broke the news about Stowell. Stowell is 37 years old and will play an NCIS agent named Alden Parker. IMDb lists some of his previous work as Catch-22, The Starling, and 12 Strong.
Stowell's Fit for the Role
Stowell has the acting chops to portray Gibbs's replacement. He can convincingly portray both dramatic and comedic moments on screen. Moreover, he has the physicality to believable portray an NCIS agent. With his military background and rugged appearance, Stowell would be believable as a man who spent many years in the field.
Other Contenders
In addition to Stowell, there are a few other actors in contention for the role of Gibbs's replacement. Gary Sinise, who played Detective Mac Taylor on CSI: NY, is one possibility. Another possibility is LL Cool J, who currently stars on NCIS: Los Angeles. Scott Bakula, who played Dwayne Pride on NCIS: New Orleans, could also be a candidate.
The Future of NCIS
The departure of Mark Harmon from NCIS is the end of an era. Gibbs has been a central character on the show since its inception, and his departure will leave a major hole in the show's cast. However, CBS is confident that they have found a suitable replacement in Austin Stowell. Only time will tell if Stowell can step into Harmon's shoes and become the new face of NCIS.
