GIFs in Gmail: How to Add Animation to Emails

GIFs in Email

GIFs, or Graphical Interchange Formats, are a popular way to add animation and visual interest to emails. They can be used to illustrate a point, add humor, or simply make an email more engaging.

Inserting a GIF into Gmail

To insert a GIF into a Gmail email, you can either upload it from your computer or link to it from a URL. To upload a GIF, click on the "Insert Image" button in the compose window and select "Upload." Browse to the GIF file on your computer and click "Open." To link to a GIF, right-click on the GIF and select "Copy Image Address." Then, click on the "Insert Image" button in the compose window and select "From web address." Paste the image address into the field and click "Insert." Once the GIF is inserted into the email, you can resize it by dragging the corners of the image. You can also add a caption or alt text by clicking on the "Edit" button in the top right corner of the image.

Sending GIFs from the Gmail Mobile App

Unfortunately, animated GIFs cannot be sent from the Gmail mobile app. This is because the app does not support the HTML5 technology that is required to display GIFs. If you want to send a GIF from your mobile device, you can use a third-party email app that supports GIFs. Some popular options include Outlook, Spark, and Airmail.
